The purpose of a lifeguard is to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) takes over. The lifeguard is responsible for maintaining a safe environment and ensuring the safety of staff, members, and guests in the pool area. This includes maintaining a safe environment at all times, keeping the pool deck dry, clean, and clear of obstacles, and performing water tests on pools and spas at specified times, reporting any problems to a supervisor or building manager immediately. Additional responsibilities include performing other duties as assigned, complying with all policies and standards, and abiding by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies and procedures are in place to address the appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
