Under the supervision of the Assistant Recreation Center Manager, the employee monitors swimming activities and enforces water safety rules and regulations; observes swimmers; rescues swimmers in distress; and administers first aid. The employee also performs routine cleaning and maintenance duties. Work is performed under supervision and is reviewed by the supervisor through discussions and observations. The employee answers inquiries and provides information pertaining to the aquatic facilities, schedules, and fees. The employee assists in pool cleaning and maintenance; checks and adjusts chemical balance of pool water; keeps the pool deck and adjoining areas clean and free of potential hazards. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment background check and random drug screens. Lifeguards are scheduled to work up to 19 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Self-scheduling may be available on a first-come, first-serve basis so long as operational needs are met.
