About The Position

The Lifeguard at the YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase helps maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming pool environment. The role involves supervising swimmers, enforcing safety rules, preventing accidents, and responding to emergencies. Lifeguard, CPR, and AED certification training may be available.

Requirements

• At least 16 years old and able to swim.
• Strong communication, attention to detail, and reliability.
• Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergencies.
• Ability to work with children, families, and adults.
• Ability to swim 500 yards continuously.
• Ability to tread water for two minutes using legs only.
• Ability to perform deep-water retrievals and victim rescues.
• Ability to perform backboard rescues and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to monitor swimmers visually and audibly.

Nice To Haves

• Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise swimmers and enforce pool safety rules.
• Respond to emergencies and perform rescues, CPR, and first aid as needed.
• Inspect pool areas and equipment for safety.
• Perform water testing, cleaning, and routine maintenance.
• Maintain accurate safety and water quality records.
