About The Position

Northern Children's Services is seeking a Lifeguard for a seasonal position from June 22nd to August 14th. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety of pool patrons, assisting with aquatic programs, and maintaining pool operations. The Lifeguard will be responsible for enforcing pool policies, rescuing patrons, administering first aid, and maintaining water quality. This position also involves assisting with the upkeep of the pool area and locker rooms, preparing daily records, and providing written reports on accidents. The Lifeguard will attend in-service training, conduct patron swimming tests, and provide customer service, including conflict resolution. The role requires performing work safely, operating equipment properly, and reporting any unsafe conditions. There may be opportunities to guide less experienced lifeguards, assist the Aquatics Coordinator, and manage chemical balances and mechanical issues in the pool and whirlpool.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of water rescue methods.
  • Knowledge of lifeguarding and first-aid practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of swimming pool operations to include: sanitation, maintenance, and safety.
  • Ability to courteously and firmly interact with pool patrons.
  • Ability and skill in carrying out water rescues.
  • Must possess a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate and American Red Cross First Aid certificate.
  • Must be certified in American Red Cross Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), for the Professional Rescuer or become certified within 30 days of employment.
  • Experience lifeguarding.
  • Pool Operators license/Lifeguard certificate.
  • CPR, First Aid + AED certificate.
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required.
  • Minimum high-school diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • May provide guidance to less experienced Lifeguards during shift.
  • May assist Aquatics Coordinator in daily aquatic managerial duties.
  • May maintain proper chemical balances in both pool and whirlpool as directed making adjustments to these balances as directed.
  • May handle mechanical/pump room or chemical problems as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of pool patrons.
  • Assist with aquatic programs and pool operation.
  • Safeguard and regulate the conduct of pool patrons.
  • Enforce pool policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Rescue patrons and perform appropriate follow-up procedures, including the proper use of equipment in the performance of first aid.
  • Test water quality in the pool and maintain appropriate records.
  • Assist in the proper maintenance and sanitary upkeep of the pool, pool area, and locker rooms.
  • Participate in the preparation of daily records.
  • Provide written reports on all accidents.
  • Maintain proper updated safety requirements.
  • Attend in-service training and instruct certain skills to staff.
  • Conduct patron swimming tests to assess ability to swim independently and unattended.
  • Provide customer service to patrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints.
  • Perform work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely and report any unsafe work conditions or practices to a supervisor.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced Lifeguards during a shift.
