Bath Health and Wellness Center is looking to add a Lifeguard to their team of Lifestyles caregivers. The Lifeguard is responsible for providing a safe, sanitary environment that encourages members to use the LifeStyles facility for fitness, relaxation and recreation and improving individual swimming and water safety skills. This role will help you to develop your water safety skills, potentially leading to becoming a Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) or Lead Lifeguard. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts between the hours of 5:00AM – 10:00PM.

Requirements

  • High School Education
  • Current nationally-recognized certification for Lifeguard Training and First Aid
  • Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer for American Red Cross (or equivalent provider)

Nice To Haves

  • Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certification
  • Interest in becoming certified to teach swim lessons

Responsibilities

  • Never leave the pool unattended during patron usage hours.
  • Arrive at an appropriate time in order to change, check message board and Strantrol the pool area for safety hazards.
  • Perform all daily and closing duties such as chemical testing and reporting, managing pool space, keeping the pool deck swept and picked up, promoting programs, putting away or turning off all equipment and locking all doors at the end of the day.
  • Provide preventive lifeguard duties during open swim, lap swim or scheduled programs.
  • Guard from an appropriate station (e.g., guard chair, pool side or roving station) with the best view of the pools and near the most at-risk swimmers.
  • Use the sit, stand and stroll method of guarding when appropriate.
  • Enforce rules to prevent injury and upset members.
  • Get to know members aquatic needs and potential emergency concerns.
  • Maintain all certifications, knows the Emergency Action Plan for fire safety, inclement weather, accidents, injuries, etc. and demonstrate knowledge during in-services and drills.
  • Assist the aquatic department in maintaining equipment and cleanliness.
  • Attend and positively contribute to mandatory in-services when scheduled.
  • Maintain personal swim skills and fitness level.
  • Teach quality swim lessons or lead quality programs by preparing daily lesson plans according to Red Cross or LifeStyles curriculum that are fun, goal-oriented and time appropriate.
  • Take daily attendance and ensure the safety of all participants.
