Under supervision of the Aquatics Director or Head Lifeguard and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the lifeguard is responsible for supervision of swimmers during recreational and fitness swims; administers First Aid, exercises control of the swimmers and maintains all safety and sanitation procedures according to the policies of the Upper Palmetto Aquatics Department and State Swimming Pool Operations Codes. The Lifeguard will assist the Aquatic Director with various branch activities such as special events and other activities that occur on various occasions. Responsible for the safety of facility patrons Maintains a constant surveillance of the pool area Enforces all of the facility’s policies, rules and regulations Responds to patron inquiries and concerns as well as provides branch information as needed Inspects the aquatic facility on a daily schedule and reports unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor. Completes records and reports regarding the following: Patron attendance Water chemistry Incidents and accidents Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff Participates in all staff meetings and in-service trainings Conducts aquatic facility maintenance as assigned Maintains a safe, clean, well-supervised pool area that welcomes participation Team work is promoted and demonstrated Communicates aquatics programs, rules and regulations Other duties as needed
