About The Position

The lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of the swimming pool environment and must closely monitor and rescue swimmers. This role involves explaining and enforcing facility regulations, policies, and procedures to patrons, as well as demonstrating proper rescue techniques including swimming rescues, First Aid, and CPR. Lifeguards administer emergency care, monitor patron activities in and around the water to minimize injury, and conduct routine chemical tests of the water. They are also responsible for keeping accurate records of incident reports, maintenance, and chemical testing, and performing routine maintenance of pool and pool equipment. The position requires effective supervision of the swimming area from an elevated Lifeguard chair and attendance at all in-service trainings. Lifeguards are expected to work as a team with all other departments and may be assigned other duties by their supervisor. Additionally, they should be knowledgeable about all programs and activities offered by Active Wellness, promote club services, assist with keeping the club well stocked and clean, and attend Active Wellness site meetings and trainings. They must also handle injury, illness, and security incident reporting.

Requirements

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (or equivalent training)
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent training)
  • American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (or equivalent training)
  • Swim 300 yards continuous
  • Tread water for two minutes using legs only
  • Demonstrate the proper use of rescue equipment
  • Perform aquatic rescue & CPR/AED skills
  • Must be detail oriented, organized and highly responsive with a commitment to customer service
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Customer service skills

  • Ability to multitask
  • Commitment to the fitness industry
  • AED/CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Proof of citizenship or legal status

Responsibilities

  • Project and promote a professional image
  • Explain and enforce facility regulations, policies, and procedures to patrons
  • Rescue swimmers in need of assistance
  • Demonstrate proper rescue techniques, including but not limited to, swimming rescues, First Aid, and CPR
  • Administer emergency care to patrons in need of assistance
  • Monitor activities of patrons in the water and on deck and minimized the possibility of patron injury
  • Conduct routine chemical test of the water on an hourly basis
  • Keep accurate records of incident reports, maintenance, and chemical testing
  • Perform routine maintenance of pool and pool equipment
  • Effectively supervise the swimming area from an elevated Lifeguard chair
  • Attend all in-service trainings
  • Administer emergency care to members and guests in need of assistance
  • Work as a TEAM with all other departments
  • Be knowledgeable about all programs and activities offered by Active Wellness
  • Promote club services and activities
