About The Position

Queens College is seeking responsible and attentive Lifeguards to oversee pool activities in a collegiate aquatics environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of all patrons during facility rentals, free hour swim, and other scheduled aquatic programs. The Lifeguard will maintain constant surveillance of the pool area, enforce all safety rules and facility policies, and respond promptly and effectively to emergencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • One year college experience.
  • Candidates must hold current Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid certifications.
  • Applicants must be dependable, punctual, and capable of working evenings and weekends as required by the rental and programming schedule.
  • This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, maintain focused attention, and respond quickly in emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in a collegiate, municipal, or high-traffic aquatic facility is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily pool operations during assigned shifts, including monitoring swimmers, supervising rental groups, and supporting free swim periods for students and community members.
  • Maintain a professional presence on deck, proactively identifying potential hazards, and ensuring that all participants follow established safety guidelines.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pool deck and equipment areas
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, event coordinators, and facility staff to ensure smooth operations during rentals and special events.
