About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Erie is seeking Lifeguards to collaborate with the City of Erie in providing activities, open swim, and Safety Around Water programs at Rodger Young Park. This role involves maintaining active surveillance of the pool area to ensure participant safety, fostering positive relationships with members and participants, and ensuring an enriching experience for all. Lifeguards are expected to be alert, knowledgeable of emergency procedures, and respond using the "safe-in-six" model, acting as role models for youth. Responsibilities include providing safety instructions, performing equipment checks, chemical testing, identifying hazardous conditions, maintaining accurate records, and participating in required training and in-service events.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of age
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
  • AED certification
  • Basic First Aid certification
  • Emergency Oxygen certification within 60 days of hire date
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification
  • Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
  • Must obtain Act 33, Act 34 and FBI clearances
  • New Employee Orientation- YUSA, Mandated Reporter, and child abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire date
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Be a people person who especially enjoys being around the pool in a recreational setting
  • Be patient and able to remain calm when stressed

Responsibilities

  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area to ensure the safety of all participants.

  • Know and review all emergency procedures and respond using the "safe-in-six" model.
  • Act as a role model for the youth at all times.
  • Give proper safety instruction to participants when around the pool.
  • Perform equipment checks.
  • Perform chemical testing as required.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions.
  • Keep records up to date and accurate.
  • Report to your supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in all training and in-service events as required.
