About The Position

This role involves ensuring the safety of participants in an aquatic facility, preventing accidents, and responding to emergencies. The position also includes implementing Lifesaving Society and Department programs in a safe and enjoyable environment, emphasizing good class control, safety supervision, excellent customer service, and enthusiasm. The individual will perform various administrative, lifeguarding, instructing, team member aquatics, and guest services tasks, adhering to all applicable facility, aquatic, and municipal policies and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety. A key aspect is modeling facility rules with a positive attitude, participating in water demonstrations with high energy, and establishing a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment. Maintaining an appropriate level of physical fitness for lifeguarding duties, providing effective emergency response, executing rescue techniques, and rendering CPR/First Aid are crucial. The role also requires ensuring lifesaving equipment is checked, set out, and reported for deficiencies, and carrying out other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • National Lifeguard (valid for two (2) years from the date of issue)
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (valid for two (2) years from the date of issue)
  • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor (valid for two (2) years from the date of issue)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C (valid for three (3) years from the date of issue)
  • HIGH FIVE® The Principles of Healthy Childhood Development
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance valid for two (2) years from the date of issue
  • Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Experience working in aquatics
  • A professional and enthusiastic employee who embraces a service-minded approach
  • Must be willing to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the overall safety of participants, prevent accidents and respond to emergency and public relations situations.
  • Maintain effective public relations employing a tactful, polite and helpful demeanor.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the facility.
  • Implement the Lifesaving Society and Department programs in a safe and enjoyable environment demonstrating good class control and safety supervision.
  • Perform various administrative, Lifeguarding, Instructing, Team Member Aquatics, Guest Services tasks, as assigned.
  • Understand and follow all applicable facility, aquatic, municipal policy and procedures, (including Occupational Health and Safety) to ensure the aquatic facility remains safe, clean and healthy.
  • Model the rules of the facility with a positive attitude.
  • Participate and provide in water demonstration with a high level of enthusiasm and energy for all levels and programs.
  • Establish a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment while developing a good rapport with participants.
  • Maintain a level of physical fitness appropriate to the demands of lifeguarding required to fulfill any emergency procedure for any circumstance.
  • Provide effective emergency response, execute proper rescue techniques and render CPR/ first aid.
  • Ensure that all lifesaving equipment is checked, set out and put away each day, reporting any deficiencies immediately to the Head Guard.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.
