About The Position

The Lifeguard I position is responsible for responding to emergency situations and providing safe enjoyment of the pool, hot tub, and splash pad for Fieldhouse patrons.

Requirements

  • 15 years of age or older.
  • Current Lifeguarding certification.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
  • Ability to pass the Red Cross pre-screen swim test.
  • The successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check, and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current District policy requirements.
  • Knowledge of: Lifeguarding skills and the ability to demonstrate them.
  • Lesson planning and class management principles.
  • Skill and Ability to: Exhibit good leadership qualities, sound judgment, and integrity; accept guidance willingly.
  • Manage difficult situations when needed, such as injury, illness, and disruption.
  • Be assertive with patrons in enforcing rules.
  • Work with the public in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Perform all duties with safety as a top priority
  • = 75% | Focus on a computer screen.
  • = 100% | Standing or sitting.
  • = 25% | Walking, bending, and other physical exertion.
  • = 50% | Pushing, pulling, and kneeling.
  • = 75% | Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Previous experience with aquatic safety, lifesaving, and first aid.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patrons in and around the pool, hot tub, and splash pad.
  • Provide first aid, CPR, and assistance in and out of the water as necessary; handle emergencies as required.
  • Assist with program needs and pool set-up.
  • Perform cleaning, maintenance, and organization tasks.
  • Maintain knowledge of splash pad operations and rules.
  • Test pool, hot tub, and splash pad water periodically throughout the shift; record levels and numbers.
  • Inform patrons of the rules and regulations to be observed in and around the pool and spa; enforce such rules and regulations to minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
  • Enforce public health rules and regulations.
  • Communicate with patrons and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Report any malfunction of equipment to the Head Lifeguard.
  • Fill out appropriate accident/incident reports.
