Organization: LifeFlight OEC Job Summary: Operating in conjunction with other team members, performs a diverse range of specialized functions in support of air medical operations, internal emergency medical response, medical coverage for events of varying size, and regional EMS resources and other healthcare partners throughout the Mid-Cumberland Region of Tennessee. Department Summary LifeFlight's Communications Center is made up of a team of licensed EMTs and Paramedics that serve as a Regional Medical Communications Center (RMCC) for Middle Tennessee, as well as communications for the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt Neonatal and Pediatric ground ambulances, Vanderbilt LifeFlight's ground EMS and Event Medicine ambulances. This team dispatches any stat emergency calls throughout the medical center campus, monitor weather conditions, and track more than 10,000 take off and landings at the Vanderbilt helipads. All aircraft dispatching is done by Air Methods AirCom. All FAA Part 135 aviation services provided by Metro Aviation, Inc., which maintains exclusive operational control over all aircraft. AirCom All aircraft dispatching for Vanderbilt LifeFlight is done by Air Methods Communications (AirCom), the only center of its size and scope in the nation. AirCom provides seamless communications between air medical crews, hospitals and emergency personnel. Established in 1996 and based in Omaha, NE., AirCom specialists field calls, provide flight coordination, flight following, and logistical support for more air medical aircraft across the nation. All Communication Specialist receive additional training for all programs within their assigned region so they can provide additional support to the region when necessary. FlightCom FlightCom provides seamless communication between air medical crews, hospitals and emergency personnel. FlightCom specialists field calls, provide flight coordination, flight following and logistical support. All communication specialists receive specialized training. TCC - Transport Communication Center Performs flight coordination. Performs ground, event communications coordination. Provides information and emergency notification to customers. Works with advanced communications systems. Practices continuous professional development and excellent customer service. Practices proactive operational support of the department.

Requirements

  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher - Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO)
  • LIC-Emergency Medical Technicians Basic - Licensure-Others
  • Relevant Work Experience Experience Level : 1 year
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Track inbound and outbound aircraft at VUMC helipads.
  • Maintain real-time awareness of helicopter air ambulances operating in the Nashville area.
  • Coordinate aircraft movements to optimize helipad usage and patient delivery.
  • Communicate directly with pilots and flight crews regarding helipad status and traffic.
  • Relay air safety advisories, including wind conditions, weather updates, and nearby aircraft activity.
  • Facilitate communications between ambulances and hospitals within Tennessee EMS Region 5.
  • Facilitate real-time medical consultation via radio or telephone between prehospital providers and physicians.
  • Assist with the coordination of EMS resources and responses during Mass Casualty Incidents or Disasters.
  • Facilitate interoperable communications.
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination with hospitals, EMS agencies, and emergency services.
  • Understands the operations and applications of all communication equipment.
  • Communicate information and emergency notifications to customers in an efficient, concise and courteous manner.
