We are seeking a motivated and experienced Life Skills Specialist to join our inpatient team. In this role, you will provide direct client care, help maintain a safe and structured therapeutic environment, and lead life skills and recovery-based programming. This position is ideal for someone passionate about supporting individuals in recovery, mentoring staff, and contributing to a strong team culture.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or related field
  • Strong understanding of substance use disorders and mental health treatment
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, licensing, and CARF standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based, fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and responsive in crisis situations
  • Ability to be flexible, dependable, and committed to ongoing learning and development
  • Candidates selected for hire must successfully pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and any required state‑mandated clearances. Employment is contingent upon meeting all screening requirements in accordance with federal, state, and accrediting‑body regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily supervision, support, and engagement for adults in treatment
  • Monitor client behavior and ensure safety and well-being
  • Foster a structured, recovery-oriented therapeutic milieu
  • Facilitate and co-lead educational and recovery-focused groups, including: Coping skills, Relapse prevention, Daily living and life skills
  • Teach and reinforce recovery principles, including 12-Step concepts (AA/NA)
  • Encourage client participation in programming and activities
  • Observe, document, and report client behaviors and progress
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff, families, and external partners
  • Support the implementation of individualized treatment plans
  • Provide orientation to new clients on: Program expectations, Facility structure, Available resources
  • Assist with client transportation to appointments or approved outings
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation
  • Support a clean, safe, and therapeutic physical environment
  • Complete administrative and clerical duties as needed
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development
  • Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA compliance) at all times
  • Follow all program, safety, and infection control policies
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions
  • Respond calmly and effectively in crisis situations
