About The Position

Little City is seeking caring and compassionate individuals to join their team as Life Skills Instructors. This role involves making a positive impact on the lives of children, adults, and seniors with developmental disabilities. The Life Skills Instructor will provide direct care, support, and intervention to children in the Children's Residential Program, adhering to the Agency Behavior Treatment Plan and Program Plan to enhance the functioning of the children served. The position is located at the Little City Main Campus in Palatine, Illinois.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED certification.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be capable of transporting children and possess a current IL valid drivers license.
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must pass Medication Administration classroom and OJT training, demonstrate competency in passing medication, and receive clearance by the Medical Team to become a member of the Med Pass team.

Nice To Haves

  • One year's experience working with children with developmental, behavioral, and/or emotional challenges.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Psychology or other related disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care, support, intervention, and line of sight supervision of the children residing in the home during assigned shifts, including assisting with all daily living activities as needed.
  • Maintains awareness of children's whereabouts at all times and participates in activities, supervising children at all times while maintaining the proper child to staff ratios.
  • Provides consistent support and intervention to children as guided by Program Manager or Home Managers and House Clinicians according to the children's goals.
  • Completes shift logs, home logbook, MARs, and other necessary documentation daily as directed by management staff.
  • Responds to Positive Action Team (PAT) staff calls as able to provide support to colleagues in need of backup support for a child in crisis.
  • Attends team meetings and Department meetings as assigned.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and willingness to comply with policies and procedures which govern the daily activities of the CGH program, including responsibilities as a Mandated Reporter and maintaining awareness of safety activities and reporting incidents.
  • Maintains adequate housekeeping standards, performs housekeeping duties, and reports maintenance problems.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and follows Little City policy and procedures, including maintaining awareness of safety activities and immediately reporting all accidents and safety hazards.
  • Exhibits financial accountability by turning in receipts, documenting mileage, and respecting/taking care of Little City property and clients personal items.
  • Cooperates with reassignment to other homes for emergency staffing solutions.
  • Successfully completes Little City required training, re-training, and any additional training as required.
