About The Position

The Galaxy Program is our newest transitional day program that supports young adults who are transitioning out of high school and into the world of adult services. The individuals spend part of their day in the classroom working on educational activities as well as social activities. They also spend part of their day in the community doing activities such as, but not limited to, going bowling, to the movies, participating in music therapy, going to the park, attending Miracle League, etc. The majority of the individuals in this program are ambulatory but do need close supervision with all activities of daily living. Some of the individuals in this program also experience behavioral challenges from time to time. All staff are trained on the best approach when it comes to working with each individual to help in being proactive to minimize such behaviors.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide close supervision with all activities of daily living.
  • Willingness to work with individuals experiencing behavioral challenges.
  • Completion of training on best approaches for working with individuals and minimizing behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and support to young adults in educational and social activities within the classroom.
  • Supervise and engage individuals in community-based activities such as bowling, movies, music therapy, and park visits.
  • Offer close supervision with all activities of daily living for ambulatory individuals.
  • Implement proactive strategies and training to manage and minimize behavioral challenges.
  • Work with individuals to help them transition from high school into adult services.
