About The Position

JARC Florida is seeking a compassionate, energetic Life Skills Instructor to work with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our innovative Ability Garden vocational training program. In this role, you will help participants build confidence, independence, social skills, and job readiness through hands-on experiences. While activities may include gardening, cooking, teamwork, and vocational training, the primary focus is supporting individuals as they develop meaningful life and work skills in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment. No horticulture experience is required. We provide training and welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds, including education, social services, recreation, direct support, human services, and community programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate, encourage, and teach others.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and reports.
  • Compassionate, patient, reliable, and team oriented.
  • Comfortable participating in both indoor and outdoor program activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in education, human services, social services, recreation, vocational programs, healthcare, direct support, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus.
  • Willing to learn gardening, horticulture, and agricultural.

Responsibilities

  • Teach basic gardening and horticultural skills while reinforcing daily living, social, and vocational skills to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Lead hands-on activities that promote and foster independence, self-confidence, teamwork, and positive social skills.
  • Follow curriculum and horticultural guidelines provided by the Garden Program Supervisor.
  • Provide supervision and skills training while providing a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
  • Assist participants during classroom, vocational, and outdoor activities.
  • Document progress toward participant goals and maintain required records.
  • Complete daily case notes and collect program data.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with Individual Program Plan (IPP) processes as needed.
  • Promote JARC's mission, values, and commitment to person-centered services.
