About The Position

The challenging but rewarding career of a Life Skills Education Assistant (also known as a Para-Professional) helps students with disabilities under the direction of a Certified Teacher. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to observe a class and ask questions prior to formal offer.

Requirements

Two (2) years of college coursework or Associate's Degree (May be waived pending successful performance on skills test administered by the District)
High School Diploma or GED required
Fingerprinting required

Responsibilities

Work under the direction of a certified teacher and assist them in successfully conducting lessons, setting up equipment and activities.
Independently monitor and supervise special needs students in the classroom, between classes and during lunch in small groups or one-on-one.
Encourage and nurture students with flexibility and initiative.
Enforce good behavior and provide discipline with dignity.
Assist students with toileting routines and needs.
Help at meal times to feed students with a variety of abilities, including assisting with tube feeding.
Provide medical support or intervention.
