About The Position

JobTrain is seeking a skilled facilitator for its Life Skills and Substance Abuse classes at the Maple Street Correctional Center (MSCC). This role will develop and deliver training based on specific program needs or individual assessed needs, and provide recovery resources for individuals post-release. The program curricula will cover a range of topics including Life Skills, Healthy Boundaries, Coping Strategies, Emotional Intelligence, Conflict Resolution, Cognitive Behavioral Intervention, and Interpersonal Skills. The counselor will also provide individual and group facilitation in Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) to help inmates manage their thoughts and emotions. This is an onsite position, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Must currently be a Certified SUD Counselor (CADTP, CCAPP or CAADE)
  • Experienced in implementing best practices such as trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, CBT, and similar approaches.
  • Experience maintaining classroom control and a healthy learning environment.
  • Experience developing curriculum and delivering training and/or facilitating workshops
  • Experience teaching / training at HS level or higher
  • Experience with coaching / counseling HS level or higher
  • Understanding of adult training methodology; knowledge of criminal justice system, behavioral science.
  • Strong skills in communication with multidisciplinary teams, conflict resolution, and behavior management.
  • Comfortable working in a correctional facility
  • Ability to follow strict guidelines and policies required by the correctional facility.
  • Ability to pass background check with the California Sherriff’s Department
  • Ability to develop appropriate relationships with diverse groups of the community population, who may have conflicting interests and opinions.
  • Ability to maintain strong and appropriate boundaries with personal identifying information when interacting with students, community, or program partners, and while at any school location or community or program partner site.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, interpersonal communication, and ability to express complex ideas with clarity and precision.
  • Intermediate computer skills, Microsoft Office and Outlook.

  • In-depth experience delivering services to underserved populations, experience working with current or formerly incarcerated individuals, or prior reentry experience preferred
  • Salesforce experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead with the development of the Life Skills and Substance Abuse curriculum

  • Coordinate with JobTrain and other programs inside and outside the facility
  • Attend meetings, as needed, provide reports, as needed, and other related duties as assigned
