About The Position

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) supports the nation's second largest research program conducted among the VA Hospitals and is seeking a temporary, full-time Life Sciences Lab Assistant. The Life Sciences Lab Assistant position is located within a neuroscience laboratory at the Palo alto VA Medical Center and calls for a highly motivated, intelligent, responsible, conscientious, and detail-oriented individual. The successful candidate must be a quick learner who enjoys acquiring new skills, advancing projects independently and collaboratively. We are particularly interested to hear from candidates with a proven interest in several of the following areas: standard molecular biology techniques, animal handling, behavioral testing, PCR, animal tissue processing and sectioning, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy. Requirements

Undergraduate student
>2 year completed of undergraduate
Willingness to work with animals and human tissues
Strong organizational skills, work ethic, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently as well as with others as a team in a productive manner

Responsibilities

Cellular analysis assistance including immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, DNA / RNA isolation, PCR, and molecular biology techniques.
Preparing and assisting with operation of instruments such as fluorescence microscope, plate washer, automated pipettors.
Assisting with mice behavioral testing and analysis
Assisting with monitoring/ordering/managing supplies.
Aiding with the generation of media and stock solutions.
Following and ensuring compliance with institutional and federal guidelines in health, safety and animal regulations.
Preparing figures and protocols and learning lab techniques.
Other tasks as assigned.
