Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Chemical, Process or Mechanical engineering or equivalent technical degree.
  • 5 years of Life Science business development and sales experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and effectively communicate technical data.
  • Must know pharmaceutical processing equipment, FDA regulations, and standards such as cGMP, ISPE, USP, ASME BPEetc.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills and work well in a team setting as well as independently.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have a demonstrated ability to provide timely feedback to both internal and external customers.
  • Must be willing to travel as business development and sale assignments and industry functions require.
  • Must have proficiency in MS Office products, with knowledge of CRM programs.
  • Must be self-motivated with a “can-do” attitude.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • The Life Sciences Business Development Manager is responsible for maintaining and generating new business for all GEA’s Valves & Pumps Business Unit Product Lines in NAM. These product lines consist of our Aseptic Valves, Pumps, and cleaning technology. Accomplish this by developing professional business relationships with pharmaceutical executives, production managers, operators, and process engineers in a consultative selling role.
  • The Business Development Manager will identify, qualify, log and pursue leads and opportunities while gathering and communicating market intelligence. The BD Manager will work with our Technical Applications Manager and our Regional Sales Managers to maintain and increase our Life Sciences revenue whilst maximizing our Gross Margin reporting to the Life Sciences Sales Manager.
  • Effect sales of GEA Valves, Pumps and Cleaners product Lines into the Life Sciences market sector in NAM and professionally represent the company.
  • Seek out businesses by visiting and presenting GEA’s Valves, Pumps and Cleaners Product Lines in the Life Sciences Market Sector to new customers, as well as Visiting existing customers and maintaining relationships with them. Follow-up with written trip reports.
  • Work closely with customers in a problem-solving mode where GEA’s Valves, Pumps and Cleaners product lines and technologies bring benefit to the customer.
  • Identify sales leads, qualify and pursue the business accordingly.
  • Develop trusting relationships based upon expertise, integrity, and friendliness.
  • Acquire sales and market intelligence on issues such as competition, price, and project status.
  • Aggressively follow up promptly throughout the sales process until a final determination of customer action.
  • Seek advice and guidance concerning the business at hand from experienced GEA colleagues as appropriate.
  • Make persuasive formal customer proposal presentations.
  • Assist with the set-up and fully participate in trade shows as assigned.
  • Negotiate secrecy agreements, terms of payment, and conditions of sale.
  • Routinely update and add to the CRM system to reflect current developments in customer opportunities.
  • Manage expense account for travel and entertainment on a timely basis.
  • Contributes to team effort by completing all tasks, as may be assigned by Life Science Sales Manager for Valves, Pumps and Cleaners.
