Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is one of the largest school districts in the United States, serving over 320,000 students in 600+ schools and employing nearly 40,000 people, most of them teachers. CPS has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student, in every school and every neighborhood, has access to a world-class learning experience that prepares each for success in college, career, and civic life. In order to fulfill this mission, we make three commitments to our students, their families, and all Chicagoans: academic progress, financial stability, and integrity. Six core values are embedded within these commitments – student-centered, whole child, equity, academic excellence, community partnership, and continuous learning. Located within the Office of Teaching & Learning, the Health & Physical Education Department manages all CPS Aquatics programs for student participation in both high school and elementary-level aquatic activities. CPS Physical Education programs provide all students, regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity, opportunities to develop physically, mentally, and emotionally in controlled, safe activities both inside and outside of the traditional classroom. Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the school Principal, the part-time/seasonal Lifeguard will ensure the safety of patrons in an assigned aquatic facility. This position will follow established procedures to respond to and prevent emergencies. This part-time/temporary Lifeguard position will be compensated for time worked at a pay rate of $18.00 per hour. The work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated 20 hours per week for an anticipated period of 10 months beginning in September 2024 and ending in July 2025.
