About The Position

We are looking for a Part-Time Life Enrichment Partner (activities assistant) to work in our Memory Care Community. Shifts are typically on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. The purpose of this position is to deliver and implement the Life Enrichment Program in the Memory Care program. This program is a means to engage residents in life-enriching experiences at an appropriate level for their needs. This program will use a person-centered approach when planning and supplementing a resident’s activities and hobbies. This position is also cross trained as a Resident Assistant to provide resident personal assistance and care when required.

Requirements

  • Must pass a California criminal background clearance.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be computer literate and capable of learning new programs needed for the role.
  • Must have leadership ability, be a team player, be a self-starter, and be able to work cooperatively with others.
  • Must be in good physical and mental condition, capable of performing assigned tasks; Good health must be verified by a health screening performed by a licensed physician, including a chest X-ray or intradermal test for TB.
  • Must be able to hear, talk, and have a clear vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, push, pull, kneel, and move intermittently during working hours and lift or exert force of up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to perform in a busy environment, subject to frequent interruptions, subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents and family members, subject to falls, infectious diseases, substances, odors.

Nice To Haves

  • At least six months of related experience is desirable.
  • Have an interest in working with the elderly.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing the overall life enrichment program for all residents of the Memory Care Community.
  • Assist in implementing and carrying out the provision of task-oriented/occupational/reminiscence/failure-free opportunities for cognitively challenged residents.
  • Conduct activity programs for large groups and small groups of residents.
  • Encourage and support resident participation in self-directed activities such as household chores, individual games, reading, and collecting.
  • Coordinate with other staff members to develop and offer supplies and activities to help calm residents' agitated, anxious, or aggressive behaviors.
  • Assist in preparing and distributing all general, monthly, and resident activity calendars.
  • Assist in implementing a monthly birthday party and other seasonal and holiday events for residents.
  • Participate in and/or lead programs per assignment.
  • Provide one-on-one engagement or visits for residents not actively participating in scheduled programming.
  • Complete daily resident participation logs before leaving each shift.
  • Assist with all special activities such as monthly outings, special outings, annual picnic, and other facility-wide events.
  • Assist with all volunteers, including assisting with the training and orientation of specific volunteers for specific tasks.

  • Adhere to program philosophy and implement a person-centered, relationship-based approach to working with residents and their families.
  • Maintain an environment that balances structure and nurture while working to engage residents in daily life and encourage them to be as independent as possible.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of residents’ rights, quality of life, confidentiality, and privacy.
  • Interact positively with residents, families, and all staff.
  • Be sensitive to residents' individual needs and desires.
  • Complete and maintain training requirements related to dementia care, program philosophy, and job description-related training.
  • Follow Residents’ Rights and Confidentiality policies at all times.
  • Follow facility safety, emergency & disaster programs.
  • Maintain the principles of infection control; be aware of all safety hazards and emergency procedures for fire and disaster that would ensure the safety of our residents.
  • Assume accountability for data contained in the employees’ handbook.
  • Attend all in-service training programs and complete Relias trainings as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor cooperatively.
