Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two years of activities or life-enrichment experience with older adults.
  • Direct memory-care or dementia-care experience required.
  • Ability to plan adaptive programs, use dementia-care communication methods, and respond calmly to behavioral expressions.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, teamwork, and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, assist with activity setup, and move materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to accompany residents on walks and outings and work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • A related college degree is preferred.
  • CBRF Certifications and a dementia or activity-professional credential preferred.
  • Required screenings and a driver license may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead a consistent calendar of individual, small-group, and group programs for residents at varying stages of dementia.
  • Personalize activities using each resident's life story, interests, culture, abilities, preferences, and routines.
  • Provide a balanced mix of music, movement, arts, reminiscence, sensory, cognitive, spiritual, outdoor, and social experiences.
  • Use dementia-informed communication, cueing, validation, and redirection; adapt programs to reduce frustration, fatigue, and overstimulation.
  • Track attendance and resident response, and report meaningful changes in mood, behavior, participation, or function to the care team.
  • Coordinate events, outings, families, volunteers, and community partners; maintain safe activity areas, supplies, and the assigned budget.
  • Collaborate with the care team, guide assistants and volunteers as assigned, and refer personal-care, clinical, or counseling needs appropriately.
