About The Position

Create meaningful experiences, foster community connections, and bring daily joy to residents as our engaging, energetic Life Enrichment Coordinator in a vibrant retirement setting. Under the direction of the Assisted Living Manager, this role develops, coordinates, and administers an effective and comprehensive life enrichment program for the residents. The coordinator creates and facilitates a dynamic and rich calendar of meaningful experiences for residents.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of methods and practices in organizing activities for seniors.
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer proficiency – Microsoft Word/Excel, and Internet.
  • Is organized, able to multi-task, think creatively, adapt to different situations.
  • Has ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to complete training on computer and/or other devices.
  • Maintain competency in the position and knowledge of trade/industry advances and new technologies.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English with all levels of staff, residents, and guests.
  • Has current and valid Fingerprint clearance card or apply for one within 20 days of hire.
  • Must have a Maricopa County food handler’s card or can obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Has current CPR/First Aid certification card obtained in a classroom setting and in compliance with or endorsed by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council guidelines or can obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Has a Certificate of Completion for memory care services training or obtains within 30 days of hire and complies with annual certification requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience in planning Senior Living activities.
  • Activity Professional Certification.
  • An Associate’s Degree in Gerontology or related field.
  • Two years of progressive responsibility in a professional capacity, program development or administration, including managerial responsibilities; or a combination of education, training and experience that would ensure the effective execution of the duties of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, schedules, and facilitates a highly effective program that provides holistic, stimulating, enjoyable, engaging, meaningful experiences to all residents.
  • Works within approved budget, ensuring that operations and projects comply with budgetary constraints, while adequately allocating resources and expenditures and ensure optimum program/project success.
  • Utilize Workplace requisition process for submitting check requests.
  • Recruit and train resident volunteers for life enrichment programs. Assist with and support volunteer involvement in various opportunities for resident engagement.
  • Ensures timely publishing of an events calendar monthly that offers opportunities for cognitive, physical, and psychosocial meaningful experiences and activities.
  • Ensure that alternative programming occurs for residents with altered cognitive/physical functioning as well as for residents who can no longer self-initiate participation.
  • Actively engages residents in planned and spontaneous life enrichment program as needed. This may include, but not be limited to, calling Bingo, playing card games, playing work games, cooking and baking demonstrations, reading newspapers to residents, Bible studies, arts and crafts, music programs, and leading armchair exercises.
  • Interacts courteously and appropriately with residents, family members, visitors, and other employees under a variety of conditions and circumstances.
  • Communicates with manager to assure Service Plan Life Enrichment preferences are included.
  • Provides limited shopping services for residents as approved by management and according to community guidelines. Ensures the resident and/or responsible party are informed in advance of any associated costs or service fees. Maintains receipts and submits documentation per community procedure.
  • Serves as an operational support resource to caregivers during urgent emergencies and resident incidents within scope of training.
  • When necessary, lifts, moves, and transports residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices.
  • Conduct meeting with vendors, and entertainers to facilitate a teamwork approach.
  • Monitors lobby and entry activity to support resident safety and controlled access.
  • Supports resident sign-out and sign-in procedures when residents leave the community with family members or approved representatives.
  • Confirm proper authorization and documentation prior to releasing resident safety and controlled access.
  • Verifies identify and authorization of visitors prior to resident access when required.
  • Ensure all visitors sign in and out in accordance with community security and regulatory requirements.
  • Receives, sorts, and distributes resident mail and package deliveries in accordance with privacy and resident rights standards. Releases mail or packages only to residents or authorized individuals, including MPOA, when documented authorization is on file.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves and other personal protective equipment where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
