About The Position

As a Life Enrichment Coordinator (LEC), you will plan and lead a variety of person-centered programs designed to enhance the emotional, social, and recreational well-being of residents in both assisted living and memory care settings. You’ll foster a positive, engaging environment through group, one-on-one, and self-directed activities while promoting inclusion, creativity, and resident connection. The LEC also plays a key role in documentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and supporting the overall quality of life on campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy, psychology, social work, healthcare, recreation administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Two years of experience working with older adults in group or residential settings, preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and group facilitation skills.
  • Creative, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and adaptable to resident needs and community priorities.
  • Sensitivity to the physical and emotional conditions of aging residents.
  • Ability to engage with individuals from diverse cultural, religious, and social backgrounds.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of twenty-five (25) pounds
  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry
  • Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles over time without fatigue
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, sit, and reach
  • Fine motor skills
  • Good visual and auditory acuity
  • Ability to safely transport residents/patients in wheelchairs without fatigue over time

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing opportunities for therapeutic self-expression for persons at all stages of memory loss, using a wide- variety of modalities to optimize resident quality of life and promote the resident’s best ability to function.
  • Facilitate programs that encourages social interaction, reduces isolation/boredom and reduces the frequency and severity of the challenging behaviors associated with dementia.
  • Create a positive, caring and stimulating environment that embraces and respects the unique and diverse personalities and cultural backgrounds of all residents.
  • Motivate residents to become actively involved in the LE programs to improve quality of life and maintain cognitive functioning. Encourages the participation of families, volunteers and caregiver staff, as appropriate.
  • Understand and respond to the needs and abilities of the individual residents and families, which will vary, and must be able to carry out activities with these differences in mind.
  • Provide one-to-one relationships with the residents who decline to participate in group activities, or who are unable to attend group activities.
  • Fulfill important psychosocial needs of residents/families by providing emotional support in times of crisis and decline.
  • Responsible for timely completion of resident’s documentation to include attendance record, care-plans and other activity notes or mandated reports as needed.
  • Work closely with caregiver staff, Byer Square staff and Life Enrichment staff throughout the campus to promote team work, quality outcomes and programming that is beneficial to those we serve.
  • Mentor student interns and volunteers who are involved with activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
