About The Position

This position will provide leadership and resources while actively serving the residents of their community through the six dimensions of life: social, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, physical, and dignified personal care. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the designee will provide regular contact with the residents through individual and group activities. This is a full-time position that may require weekends, holidays, and/or evenings.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or a high school graduate.
  • Current and valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to speak & hear well enough to verbally interact with residents, families, staff, and visitors.
  • Must be able to see well enough to read and write English, use a computer, and visually interact with residents, families, staff, and visitors.
  • Must be able to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a functional recreation program with a therapeutic approach.
  • Ensure the activity program contains a balanced mixture of activities addressing the social, emotional, spiritual, physical, and intellectual needs of residents.
  • Provide opportunities for residents to engage in one-on-one, small group, and large group activities throughout the course of the scheduled shift.
  • Promote, plan, and carry out a full recreation program.
  • Review each resident's medical and social history, as well as update resident's preferences, likes, and dislikes, to determine appropriate activities tailored to their unique requirements and skills.
  • Monitor and evaluate resident response to program inclusion and resident safety.
  • Oversee the development of the community’s engagement team (this includes the engagement assistants and/or engagement coordinator).
  • Document resident engagement and activity participation in a timely manner, on a daily basis.
  • Maintain supply inventory & organization of activity supplies.
  • Coordinate with outside groups and organizations to arrange programs for residents.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and assist volunteers, therapeutic recreation internships, or students.
  • Incorporate intergenerational opportunities for the community.
  • Attend corporate compliance training and adhere to policies and procedures, including monthly staff trainings & bi-monthly conference calls.
  • Communicate with the team regarding potential health concerns/changes in the physical or mental condition of residents.
  • Assist in marketing responsibilities (i.e. taking inquiries and/or giving tours) when management, marketing, and/or team leaders are not available.
  • Create & update the monthly activity calendar.
  • Assist residents with meals, including snacks & drinks throughout the day.
  • Assist residents with completion of self-care and/or occupational activities of daily living, as needed.
  • Assist in the transfer and/or lifting of residents as needed.
  • Research & present new activity ideas.
  • Participate in resident outings.
  • Update the engagement spotlight board (monthly calendar, newsletter, entertainment announcements, birthdays, etc.).
  • Manage the Picture Board/E-mailing pictures.
  • Plan special events such as resident birthdays and community parties.
  • Celebrate resident birthdays unless otherwise noted.
  • Provide at least 4 holiday parties and other events per year where families are invited (e.g., near Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, & New Year’s).
