Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Engineer

KUNZSan Francisco, CA
$70,000 - $120,000

About The Position

At KUNZ, Life Cycle Assessment Engineers work at the intersection of engineering, product development, and sustainability. They quantify the environmental impact of products and systems used in global hyperscale data center programs and use that information to help teams make better design decisions. This role involves working directly with product models, Bills of Materials, technical design documentation, and engineering teams to understand emission sources, evaluate design alternatives, and translate complex sustainability data into usable information. The opportunity involves serving as a technical bridge between design engineering and global sustainability initiatives, supporting new and existing product designs for a global data center program, and integrating sustainability considerations earlier in the engineering process. The work spans product-level carbon estimates, Whole Building LCA support, environmental reporting, data analysis, and complete lifecycle assessments to reduce the environmental footprint of complex infrastructure programs.

Requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Understanding of Life Cycle Assessment methodologies and experience conducting an LCA.
  • Comfort working with engineering models, technical documentation, and detailed product information.
  • Experience with MCAD tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or DELMIA and/or BIM tools such as Revit.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when reviewing and interpreting 2D and 3D design information.
  • Ability to work across engineering and sustainability disciplines and translate technical information into clear, usable analysis.
  • Self-directed and comfortable taking ownership of work, managing priorities and deliverables with minimal day-to-day oversight.

Nice To Haves

  • Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment
  • Product carbon footprint analysis
  • Embodied carbon analysis
  • Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
  • Sustainability reporting or environmental performance analysis
  • Data analysis, dashboarding, or visualization
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) analysis
  • Product development or design engineering
  • Data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, or large-scale construction programs
  • Experience working with external LCA consultants or sustainability partners

Responsibilities

  • Support LCA programs by reviewing, organizing, and preparing product models, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical design documentation for external LCA partners.
  • Review Whole Building LCA data and provide initial quality assurance to help ensure engineering inputs and results accurately reflect the underlying designs.
  • Generate early estimates of product carbon footprints during the design process and evaluate opportunities to reduce emissions through design changes.
  • Conduct Life Cycle Assessments of products and subsystems that contribute to a broader understanding of the environmental footprint of global construction programs.
  • Analyze sustainability and environmental performance data and develop dashboards, reports, and other tools that help communicate results.
  • Work across design engineering, sustainability teams, and external partners to translate technical engineering information into meaningful environmental impact data.

Benefits

  • Opportunities to integrate sustainability directly into engineering and product development
  • Exposure to global-scale infrastructure programs and complex engineering systems
  • The ability to influence design decisions through measurable environmental data
  • Mentorship from senior engineers working on global programs
  • Technical training and professional development
  • Annual bonus opportunity
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and company holidays
