The Lieutenant position is responsible for campus police operations and command, performing duties similar to Campus Police Officers and assuming command responsibilities for major incidents until relieved. This role involves departmental leadership and supervision, supporting the Director of Campus Safety and Police, planning and staffing special events, overseeing shift operations, and providing direct supervision to shift personnel and department dispatchers. The Lieutenant will also dispatch when needed and assume primary responsibilities for the Rydin Parking Program. Additionally, this role has significant administrative responsibilities related to Clery Act and regulatory compliance, including managing the Daily Crime Log, Timely Warning Notifications, training Campus Security Authorities (CSAs), ensuring compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, and preparing the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASR). The position also involves conducting in-depth investigations, overseeing departmental investigations and reporting, managing surveillance and Body Worn Camera data, inspecting and maintaining equipment, and reviewing incident reports. The Lieutenant will also be involved in training, crime prevention, and community engagement, with a focus on Community Policing, and will manage the Omnigo Reporting system. People management duties include recruiting, selecting, onboarding, training, setting expectations, providing feedback, supporting employee development, ensuring policy compliance, fostering an inclusive environment, and overseeing time, attendance, schedules, and leave requests.
