About The Position

The Liens Assistant-Subrogation Clerk will be responsible for identifying and tracking potential subrogation claims and liens associated with personal injury cases. This role involves requesting and obtaining necessary information from various entities, maintaining accurate records, and communicating with clients and internal staff. The position requires a strong understanding of personal injury claims, medical liens, and the settlement process, along with excellent organizational and communication skills.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience in a personal injury law firm, insurance claims, medical billing, subrogation, liens, or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of personal injury claims and the settlement process strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical liens, health insurance claims, Medicare/Medi-Cal, and subrogation concepts preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of files and competing deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional and courteous communication with clients, insurance companies, lienholders, and medical providers.
  • Strong follow-up and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with attorneys and case management staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management software.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and firm information.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and track potential subrogation claims and liens associated with personal injury cases.
  • Request and obtain lien, benefit, payment, and claim information from insurance companies, health plans, medical providers, and government agencies.
  • Review case files to identify potential medical liens, health insurance claims, Medicare/Medi-Cal interests, and other reimbursement claims.
  • Maintain accurate and current subrogation and lien records in the firm's case management system.
  • Monitor outstanding requests and follow up with insurance carriers, lienholders, and other third parties.
  • Request itemized statements, payment ledgers, lien notices, and final lien amounts as needed.
  • Communicate with clients regarding outstanding lien and subrogation issues when directed by the attorney or case manager.
  • Assist with obtaining reductions, confirmations, releases, and payoff statements.
  • Maintain organized documentation of all correspondence, telephone calls, requests, and responses.
  • Coordinate with attorneys, case managers, settlement staff, and accounting regarding outstanding liens and subrogation claims.
  • Review settlement files to ensure known liens and subrogation claims are appropriately addressed before disbursement.
  • Assist with Medicare, Medi-Cal, ERISA, health insurance, and other reimbursement-related matters as assigned.
  • Escalate complex, disputed, or time-sensitive lien issues to the appropriate attorney or manager.
  • Meet established deadlines and follow-up requirements for assigned files.
  • Protect confidential client information and comply with firm privacy, security, and document-handling procedures.
  • Perform other duties related to personal injury case administration as assigned.
