About The Position

As a LiDar Technician you will be the critical link between our field collection crews and our engineering clients, processing massive datasets for high-profile projects, including large-scale corridor mapping for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience working in a data extraction role.
  • Hands-on experience using TopoDOT and MicroStation.
  • Experience working with varying point cloud densities, specifically data from mobile mapping systems, UAV platforms and Terrestrial Scanners.
  • Must be computer savvy using applications Microsoft Office, Windows PC, and Internet software.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Writes clearly and informatively.
  • Basic mathematics, including algebra and geometry.
  • Able to deal with and understand problems involving different variables in varied situations.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret documents such as safety rules and requirements, machine manuals of operation, and process procedures.
  • Works with the team; contributes to a positive team environment; welcomes feedback.
  • Approaches others in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Accepts and adapts to frequent change.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree in GIS, Geomatics, Engineering, or a related field preffered.
  • FAA Part 107 certification is preffered.

Responsibilities

  • Extract 2D and 3D features (edge of pavement, utilities, building footprints, poles, etc.) from dense mobile, aerial, and terrestrial LiDAR point clouds.
  • Generate Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and Digital Terrain Models (DTMs).
  • Utilize MicroStation and TopoDOT to balance automated algorithms with manual drafting for maximum efficiency and accuracy.
  • Validate extracted surfaces and features against ground control points to ensure compliance with project accuracy specifications.
  • Organize and manage massive .las and .e57 datasets.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of surveying principles, coordinate systems, and datums.
  • The visual endurance to handle repetitive, high-precision digitizing while identifying noise, multi-path artifacts, and false returns.
  • Ensure the accuracy of reports by data review and resolving discrepancies internally for assigned projects.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize effectively; and the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all staff and clients.
  • Organize, multi-task, prioritize and re-prioritize daily workload and work with minimum supervision and the ability to meet deadlines, establish deadlines, and prioritize deadlines.
  • Collect, organizes, disseminate, and analyze significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Review and compare field notes to final maps.
  • Make corrections after quality control checks.
  • Revise or change survey drawings, traces, and/or copy existing drawings, and complete simple calculations with specific instructions.
  • May perform light office duties including but not limited to filing, making copies, and scanning.
  • May carry out other duties as assigned by management.
