Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program required.
  • Current Massachusetts LICSW license in good standing required.
  • Experience providing clinical behavioral health services to adults required.
  • Strong assessment, documentation, and interdisciplinary communication skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with bariatric surgery patients, weight management programs, or medical populations preferred.
  • Knowledge of eating disorders, trauma-informed care, and health behavior change preferred.
  • Familiarity with integrated care or hospital-based settings preferred.
  • Experience facilitating groups or psychoeducational programming preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with bariatric surgeons, physicians, dietitians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in case conferences, treatment planning meetings, and program development initiatives.
  • Coordinate referrals to community resources, higher levels of care, or specialty behavioral health services as needed.
  • Advocate for patients’ psychosocial needs within the medical system.
  • Maintain licensure and comply with all state, federal, and organizational regulations.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and program outcomes tracking.
  • Provide patient education related to behavioral health, coping strategies, and long-term success following bariatric intervention.
  • May facilitate bariatric or behavioral health support groups (if applicable).
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for bariatric surgery candidates, including evaluation of mental health history, substance use, coping skills, readiness for surgery, and adherence capacity.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative counseling to bariatric patients addressing behavioral change, emotional adjustment, body image, trauma history, and lifestyle modification.
  • Deliver individual therapy using evidence-based modalities.
  • Assess and manage co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and stress-related concerns.
  • Complete required clinical documentation, assessments, and treatment plans in compliance with regulatory and program standards.
