About The Position

Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (BBHH) is an acute psychiatric and behavioral 90-bed facility offering inpatient and outpatient services for children, adolescents, and adults. We provide treatment for mental/behavioral health, chemical dependency, and co-occurring disorders through medically supervised detoxification. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Appropriate vocational training
  • Experience in an inpatient psychiatric hospital
  • Unencumbered current LVN Licensure in the State of California
  • Current BLS CPR certification (or obtain prior to start date)
  • Handle-With-Care Physical Restraint Technique Training (during orientation)
  • One (1) year experience working in a behavioral/psychiatric facility preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education accepted.
  • Current LVN California License
  • CPR Certification
  • Handle with Care Certification (prior to completing orientation)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on inpatient units.
  • Collect and analyze patient data including physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, and anticipated discharge needs.
  • Provide and assure the carrying out of established nursing procedures utilizing the nursing process.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment within the LVN scope of practice.
  • Provide age-appropriate total patient care, assessing patient and situation needs and problems.
  • Assist medical providers with rounds, passing medications, and treatments.
  • Provide timely noting and implementation of medical provider orders within the LVN scope of practice.
  • Demonstrate thorough, concise, and timely documentation, shift reports, and verbal communications.
  • Communicate pertinent patient and unit information to medical providers, House Supervisor, and other appropriate persons while maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Assist in the coordination of services with medical staff, nursing staff, and other departments.
  • Respond rapidly and effectively during emergency situations.
  • Maintain clinical skills, staying current in the use of equipment, procedures, and trends in nursing.
  • Efficiently and effectively provide total patient care including basic assessment, care planning, rehabilitation, medication, treatments, activities of daily living, and discharge planning.
  • Complete annual competencies.
  • Follow and assist in the implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Assist in monitoring, procurement, and proper inventory of supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment.
  • Make independent decisions, keeping House Supervisor/Unit Manager and others informed.
  • Prioritize and manage time efficiently.
  • Communicate with others (verbally and in writing) in an appropriate and timely manner, demonstrating tact, sensitivity, and the ability to deal with people.
  • Adhere to and promote the established values of the organization, including customer service, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Attend department meetings and huddles on a regular basis.
