About The Position

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN's) provide skilled nursing care to patients and clients at public health clinics, behavioral health clinics (locked, inpatient, and day treatment) or long-term skilled nursing facilities. Interviews Will Be Conducted on an Ongoing Basis. Individuals possessing bilingual language skills are highly desirable. This position is eligible for appointment at step 5, $66,497.60 annually. Future Salary Increases are planned for June 2026 (5.3%) and June 2027 (4.8%). The eligible list may be used to fill multiple vacancies in Health and Human Services Agency departments, including Edgemoor Distinct Part Skilled Nursing Facility, Public Health Clinics, and San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital. Licensed Vocational Nurses at the Psychiatric Hospital are assigned to one of two shifts: Morning (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) or Night (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.).

Requirements

  • Possession of a current license to practice vocational nursing in the State of California at time of appointment.
  • A current certification in accordance with the American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program is required at the time of appointment.
  • A valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) is required at time of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual language skills are highly desirable.
  • Certification or completion of courses in Blood Withdrawal and/or IV Therapy is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled nursing care to patients and clients at public health clinics, behavioral health clinics (locked, inpatient, and day treatment) or long-term skilled nursing facilities.
  • Provide trauma-informed care, health education, and referrals to a diverse population in Public Health Services clinics.
  • Provide psychiatric evaluation and crisis intervention-oriented acute treatment for adult residents of San Diego County at the San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital.
  • Stabilize patients' behavioral health crisis and move ahead to a less restrictive level of care at the San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital.
