About The Position

Assists patients, staff, and physicians to maintain a high level of operational efficiency and customer service while providing quality care to a designated patient population. This role involves demonstrating clinical knowledge and skill within the scope of practice, administering medications safely and accurately, preparing patients for examinations or procedures, and accurately documenting patient care per protocol. The LVN will partner with physicians to continuously learn and expand their clinical knowledge base, listen to patients, collect pertinent information, and recognize the urgency of patient problems to route them to physicians. They will also return phone calls according to physician instructions, may schedule patient appointments, and provide specific educational material and individual teaching in partnership with the physician. The role requires adherence to universal precautions and knowledge of infection control policies and procedures. Additionally, the LVN will provide assistance to PSRs in resolving front desk responsibilities, act as a positive role model, ensure appropriate service delivery, and participate in clinical projects as directed. The position also focuses on department efficiency and effectiveness, including prompt message return, troubleshooting problem calls, monitoring patient flow, and completing daily tasks to ensure quality and meet service standards. The LVN will follow policies for entering OCM and utilizing IDX, complete work within assigned hours, and be able to respond to changing circumstances and prioritize patient needs. They must respond to urgent and emergent situations calmly and capably, utilize good judgment and problem-solving skills, and ensure readiness of reports and information to maximize patient visits. Maintaining appropriate supply levels and being cost-conscious in usage are also key. The role involves participation in and preparation for site inspections and inventories, completing department inventories per guidelines, and entering authorizations and scheduling surgeries/procedures accurately and in a timely manner. Assistance in other departments as assigned to meet staffing needs and travel to other sites may be required.

Requirements

  • California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - CA Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians -REQUIRED
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Nice To Haves

  • 1 Year LVN experience in related clinical area

  • ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association -PREFERRED

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients, staff and physicians as needed to maintain a high level of efficiency of operations and customer service while providing quality care to a designated patient population.

  • Administers medications safely and accurately per guidelines and written order, ensuring verification by licensed person and documentation of all medications administered including two (2) patient identifier verification.
  • Assists with Medical Assistant medication verification in immediate area.
  • Prepares patient for examination or procedure.
  • Obtains complete and accurate consent for procedures/surgery.
  • Prepares and labels biopsies in a thorough and accurate manner.
  • Accurately documents patient care per protocol.
  • Partners with physicians to continuously learn and expand clinical knowledge base.
  • Listens to patients, collects pertinent information, recognizes the urgency of the patient's problem and routes to physicians.
  • Returns phone calls according to physician instruction.
  • May schedule patient appointments.
  • Provides specific educational material and individual teaching in partnership with physician.

  • Successfully completes Nursing Competencies with a score of 90% or greater in each section.
  • Completes Quality Assurance (QA) assignments and ensures overall department compliance with requirements.
  • Maintains narcotic control procedures including key management and inventory.
  • Assists with prescription reconciliation at the end of month.
  • Supports and completes quality initiatives: P4P, BMI, DataMart, etc.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and Information Systems applications.
  • Able to activate emergency procedure per protocol - code, fire, etc.
  • Manages and completes AEHR tasks per prescribed time lines.
  • Supports and has knowledge of new applications and policies: AEHR, Abbreviations, etc.
  • Demonstrates typing skills proficiency by using a keyboard, required to type proficiently and accurately; Have the ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute with 0-2 errors; Have the ability to proof work.
  • Knowledge of insurance, utilization review, scheduling requirements and support of front desk responsibilities.
  • Able to operate and maintain department equipment.
