This is a Full-Time Licensed Vocational Nurse / Licensed Psychiatric Technician position at the Fresno Psychiatric Health Facility (Fresno PHF), a 24/7 inpatient involuntary program with a 16-bed facility for youth (ages 12-17) dealing with acute psychiatric symptoms. The program offers intensive treatment with individualized care plans and moves clients through five phases: admission; engagement; learning; stabilization and linkage to resources and aftercare.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED, HiSET, etc.) required
  • One (1) year nursing experience required, preferably treating the mentally ill in an inpatient setting. (Clinical nursing school rotations may be substituted for work experience)
  • A valid California LVN or LPT license is required.
  • Valid CPR certification required within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid ProAct certification required within 30 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited school of licensed vocational nursing, graduation from an accredited school of psychiatric technology, or associate’s degree in nursing or social sciences preferred.
  • One (1) year medication administration experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Visually and audibly observes, documents in writing, and reports orally or in writing the physical or mental condition to the Registered Nurse in charge of the facility on the shift and the attending physician.
  • Orders, prepares, administers, and documents the administration of medication for clients according to physician’s orders.
  • Confirms delivery of all ordered medication from pharmacy on shift worked.
  • Attend and participate in morning rounds, change of shift meetings, and treatment team meetings as scheduled on the assignment sheet.
  • Makes written or oral shift assignments and plans, organizes, and directs the nursing activities of the unit, assuring quality care delivery.
  • Provides other nursing duties including first aid and medical intervention within scope of licensure as necessary for each individual client.
  • Supports admission processes to ensure PHF beds remain full, including reviewing admission packets and securing approval, scheduling admissions, and completing all required verifications & forms upon arrival in facility.
