About The Position

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides safe, compassionate nursing care to pediatric patients with medical and/or behavioral health conditions under the supervision of an RN or physician. The LVN supports care plan implementation, administers medications and treatments within scope, documents patient responses, and helps maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing program required.
  • Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the state of Texas required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • PALS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • De-escalation training required within 30 days of hire.
  • Minimum two years of inpatient, rehab, acute, or post-acute hospital experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and documentation skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of pediatric nursing experience, preferably in acute care, preferred.
  • Experience with medical and/or behavioral health patient populations strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care to pediatric patients under the supervision of an RN, APRN, or physician.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring safe and accurate delivery within LVN scope.
  • Monitor and assess patient progress, identifying changes in condition, acute illness, or behavioral health concerns.
  • Observe, report, and document patient status and behavioral changes to the supervising RN or provider.
  • Participate in the implementation of care plans developed by the RN or provider.
  • Reinforce patient and family education related to medications, disease processes, and coping strategies.
  • Use approved de-escalation techniques and support behavioral health interventions under supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to support safe, coordinated care.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory standards while contributing to quality care and team collaboration.
