About The Position

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides essential health services to support the physical well-being of students across CMP campuses. This role delivers direct nursing care, manages health records, responds to medical emergencies, and collaborates with families, staff, and community health providers to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment in alignment with CMP’s commitment to whole-child development.

Requirements

  • Valid California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in good standing.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience providing nursing care, preferably in a school or pediatric setting.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing principles, first aid, and emergency procedures within the LVN scope of practice.
  • Strong assessment and decision-making skills in urgent or time-sensitive situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, families, and staff.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive health information.
  • Cultural competence and commitment to equity in supporting diverse student populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a school or educational environment.
  • Bilingual skills (especially Spanish).
  • Familiarity with California school health mandates and immunization requirements.
  • Experience supporting students with chronic health conditions or special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and provides first aid and basic nursing care to students with minor injuries or illnesses in accordance with established protocols and scope of LVN practice.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments to students as directed by a physician, under the supervision of the Credentialed School Nurse and in compliance with CMP medication policies.
  • Monitors students with chronic health conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, seizures) and implements individualized health care plans.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential health records, including medication logs, and incident reports.
  • Responds promptly to medical emergencies, performs basic life support measures when needed, and coordinates emergency medical services as required.
  • Assists with vision, hearing screenings in accordance with state mandates and documents results.
  • Communicates effectively with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns, medications, and follow-up care in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Credentialed School Nurse.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and well-stocked health office.
  • Assists in staff training related to health and safety topics as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support students' health, social, and academic progress.
