About The Position

Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctional facility. They function within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Managed Care is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join their team. They provide medical, mental health, and dental services to patients in 22 facilities across West Texas with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Requirements

  • Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
  • New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt.

Responsibilities

  • Administering medications
  • Performing health assessments
  • Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patient responses to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals/outcomes.
  • Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments and procedures.
  • Assists with or performs exams and procedures and documents intervention in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Monitors patient's medical status and reports changes in status to supervisor or provider.
  • Represents nursing in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Administer or assist with the administration and documentation of medications.
  • Provide additional licensed nursing support to fill in gaps and alleviate staffing shortage in both psychiatric and medical units.
  • Completes additional clinical and administrative tasks based on unit needs.
  • Builds professional connections to strengthen our team and promote our values.

Benefits

  • Shift differential pay for night and weekend shifts: Licensed Vocational Nurse Differential: Day Shift Employees: Earn an extra $3.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday. Night Shift Employees: Earn an extra $3.00 per hour for shifts worked Monday through Friday. Earn an extra $6.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
