About The Position

This Veterinarian Technician position is crucial for providing excellent veterinary care to patients at our Vetco Total Care full-service hospital and delivering phenomenal customer care to their owners. The Veterinary Technician embodies the mission and values of the organization, setting the tone for the technical and customer support team. Requirements

  • College or college-equivalent education (completed) as required to become a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state in which the hospital is located.
  • At least 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassionate and sympathetic demeanor.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
  • Telephone and computer skills.
  • Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Responsibilities

  • Greet clients and patients, escort them into exam rooms, obtain weight and vital signs, and record information in the electronic medical record.
  • Obtain and record a thorough patient history.
  • Assist veterinarians with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia.
  • Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, and handle/dispense medications under veterinarian direction.
  • Maintain the electronic medical record.
  • Schedule appointments, communicate with and educate clients, and relay test results.
  • Maintain and update inventory as well as client/patient records.
  • Manage accounts receivable.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures.
  • Safely support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients, including checking and recording vital parameters.
  • Monitor patients during recovery and prepare them for discharge or transfer.
  • Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including administering medications and therapies.
  • Keep patients clean, watered, and fed as directed, and walk canine patients when necessary.
  • Participate in the training of new staff members and general dissemination of knowledge.
  • Keep the hospital environment neat and clean, performing regular cleaning based on necessity and a pre-determined maintenance schedule.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
