About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Midtown, NYC is seeking a skilled Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our thriving Surgery department. This position offers up to a $20,000 sign on bonus based on experience. The pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience. Competitive shift differential pay is offered for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends, with a 4-hour minimum. For example, Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential, Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential, and Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr. Shift Differential.
Requirements
- Licensed Veterinary Technician
- Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities
- Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Understand normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
- Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
- Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
- Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
- Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
- Comfortable with medical math.
- Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery)
- Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions.
- Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
- Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
- Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
