About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Veterinary Technicians to work in their Neurology Department. This position is located in Richmond, Virginia. The hospital is a 20,000-square-foot facility that was recently remodeled, including a new CT scanner. The hospital is equipped with an on-site MRI, comprehensive orthopedic surgical equipment, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, arthroscopy, and an internal medicine service with state-of-the-art endoscopy, ultrasound, and complete ancillary radiographic diagnostic capabilities. The role involves providing advanced care for neurology patients, including anesthesia monitoring, emergency triage, digital radiography, vital sign interpretation, CPR, medication calculation and administration, phlebotomy, catheter placement, and feeding tube/central line maintenance. The position also requires a passion for mentoring and training colleagues, as well as patience and empathy when addressing client concerns.

Requirements

  • Experienced Veterinary Technician
  • Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
  • Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
