JOB SUMMARY The Licensed Veterinary Technician assists veterinarians in providing care to animals, performing tasks such as physical examinations, dental procedures, surgeries, immunizations, and euthanasia, while also educating clients and maintaining inventory. The role involves seeing their own appointments for non-doctor-required procedures, including suture removals, vaccine administration, and boarding entrance exams. The technician must have knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, diseases, and preventative healthcare practices. Flexibility in work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is required. The Veterinary Technician works under the direct supervision of the Veterinary Technician Supervisor and veterinarians.

Requirements

  • Must be a current Licensed Veterinary Technician.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases, treatment, and prevention.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician or in a similar clinical environment preferred.
  • Experience in anesthesia induction and monitoring, radiology, surgical assistance, and laboratory diagnostics.
  • Prior experience providing client education and ensuring compliance with care protocols.
  • Proficient in venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia induction/monitoring, radiography, and sterilization techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical record systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to educate clients on treatment plans, care protocols, and medication administration.
  • Strong motivational and staff leadership skills.
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities while working independently.
  • Sound Judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively in various situations.

  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Close vision required to see computer monitors, read documents, and operate copy and fax machines.
  • Distance vision is required to drive an automobile if driving is a requirement of the job.
  • Work environment is indoors and climate-controlled.
  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Moderate noise levels as found in a business office with computer printers, households with TVs and dishwashers, and driving in light traffic.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians in providing care to animals, performing tasks such as physical examinations, dental procedures, surgeries, immunizations, and euthanasia

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all clients and guests of the facility
  • Assist and/or education clients on animal care protocols, medications, and procedures
  • Individual appointments for non-doctor-required procedures (e.g., suture removal, vaccine administration, lab work, surgery admission/discharge, boarding entrance exams)
  • Prepare and clean rooms for events or procedures
  • Assist in lab/event setups and provide necessary support as needed
  • Stock and maintain medical supplies
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures
  • Report any violations or safety hazards
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors
