Bay Beach Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is a multi-doctor, 24/7 emergency hospital dedicated to providing exceptional care for pets and their families. Our hospital places a strong emphasis on excellent patient care, thoughtful client communication, and consistent medical protocols. Visiting specialists are available to provide advanced services including echocardiograms and ultrasound. We also have a General Practice sister hospital located approximately 20 minutes away in the heart of Virginia Beach, which has six doctors and is fully staffed. We are looking for a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) who is confident in an emergency setting, enjoys working as part of a collaborative medical team, and is committed to providing excellent care from admission through discharge.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • An active Licensed Veterinary Technician credential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with anesthesia monitoring, venipuncture, laboratory procedures, radiology, and dentistry.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to work within practice management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Professionalism, composure, and sound judgment when working in stressful or emotionally challenging situations.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A compassionate approach and commitment to providing exceptional patient care and client service.
  • The ability to safely work around cleaning chemicals, anesthetic gases, radiation, zoonotic diseases, and animal bodily fluids.
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely handle animals weighing up to 130 pounds.
  • The ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • A professional, neat appearance consistent with hospital standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for hospitalized patients, including IV catheter placement, CRI management, medication administration, feeding tube placement, and continued patient monitoring.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and assist with anesthesia monitoring, patient recovery, and post-operative care while prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures, including appropriate patient restraint, preparation, and monitoring.
  • Perform laboratory testing such as urinalysis, hematology, fecal testing, and cytology, with accurate documentation and communication of results as appropriate.
  • Use and maintain diagnostic equipment, including radiology and ultrasound equipment, while following applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and other prescribed treatments in accordance with DEA, OSHA, and hospital requirements.
  • Maintain accurate controlled drug records and ensure controlled substances are handled, stored, and documented appropriately.
  • Enter, review, and maintain accurate treatment plans within the medical record system.
  • Complete medical recordkeeping, charge entry, and chart audits as needed to support smooth hospital operations.
  • Educate clients clearly and compassionately regarding preventative care, treatment plans, medications, products, and nutritional recommendations.
  • Keep treatment and surgical areas clean, organized, appropriately stocked, and maintained in accordance with sterile procedures.
  • Monitor inventory, rotate supplies, and assist with ordering medical equipment and supplies when needed.
  • Contribute to a positive hospital culture through communication, teamwork, and collaboration with colleagues across departments.
  • Follow state practice acts, legal requirements, and hospital policies when performing all duties.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed based on hospital operations and patient care needs.
