About The Position

Plains Area Mental Health Center is seeking a fully licensed Therapist to work with clients who have complex behavioral health needs, including those navigating Medicaid, housing instability, and substance use. This is a community mental health role focused on high-acuity cases and serving individuals who may be turned away by other settings. The mission is to provide accessible, high-quality mental health services to the communities served, honoring individual dignity and potential for growth. As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), the center serves everyone regardless of insurance status, ability to pay, or complexity of need. The role involves working within a team-based care model with direct access to prescribers, case managers, and crisis response staff. Positions are hybrid after building a telehealth caseload, typically within three to six months, with up to two remote days per week. A flexible schedule includes one set evening per week, with the rest set in advance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (MA, MS, or MSW) from an accredited program
  • Full licensure: LMHC, LISW, or LMFT
  • Valid Iowa driver’s license and insurance

Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic interviews and assessments with children and adults to determine appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Provide individual and brief counseling in an outpatient setting across age groups and presentations.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatric NPs and PAs, a board-certified psychiatrist, case managers, and peer support staff.
  • Consult on cases, programs, or community needs as appropriate.
  • Provide emergency services and crisis intervention when needed.
  • Complete clinical documentation according to center standards.
  • Participate in periodic on-call rotation (on-call pay provided above base salary).
  • Mentor temp-licensed colleagues by providing clinical supervision hours toward full licensure.
