About The Position

This role is for a Licensed Structural Engineer IV who will be generally responsible for performing all aspects of the complete design of complex civil/structural engineering assignments. Work at this level requires extensive progressive experience in civil/structural engineering and involves applying advanced engineering techniques and analysis. This work will be performed under general supervision. The primary responsibilities include utilizing department design and drafting standards, understanding project scope and criteria, developing conceptual layouts and cost studies, producing preliminary designs and material take-offs, creating detailed design calculations and sketches, ensuring efficient use of construction materials with an emphasis on ease of construction, checking calculations performed by others, assisting the drafting group, consulting with other disciplines, advising on design or scope changes, assisting in assembling project packages for procurement, reviewing vendor and other discipline drawings, developing construction specifications, reviewing fabrication drawings and submittals, performing fieldwork for data gathering and construction support, and providing technical guidance to less experienced personnel. The position also requires the ability to lead teams in coordinating civil/structural efforts, manage scope, schedule, and budget, identify and develop work-sharing packages, estimate and schedule professional service hours, and assess progress and quality of work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Structural coursework is required for structural engineering positions.
  • 6+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering.
  • Knowledge and application of the International Building Code and associated standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).
  • Expertise with civil/structural analysis software including operating and interpreting results.
  • Knowledge of the discipline specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.
  • Able to lead a small to large team to deliver on commitments.
  • Able to deliver convincing presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed.
  • Able to provide interoffice execution leadership and support.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performing all aspects for complete design of complex civil/structural engineering assignments.

  • Advising the senior engineer concerning design or scope changes.
  • Assisting other engineers in developing and assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications into a “package” for procurement.
  • Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for civil/structural input.
  • Developing construction specifications.
  • Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals.
  • Performing fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie-ins and provide construction support.
  • Providing technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
  • Leading small to large size teams in coordinating civil/structural efforts and keeping the team focused on scope, schedule and budget.
  • Identifying and developing work sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
  • Providing leadership to ensure communication and execution of work within scope, schedule and budget.
  • Estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of civil/structural work.
