About The Position

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is seeking a candidate to fill their therapist position within the Addiction Sciences Division: Center for Drugs and Alcohol Program (CDAP). This position is for a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) who will beـ working in a team environment in the Outpatient Clinic of the Addiction Sciences Division of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. In this capacity, the Therapist will be providing individual and group therapy to individuals with addiction-related and other psychiatric illnesses and their families.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a social work or social welfare program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education or from a social work or social welfare program offered by a regionally accredited institution.
  • Must be licensed in the state of South Carolina for the following: Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or Social Welfare program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education required (for LISW).
  • Master's Degree in Counseling from an accredited program (for LPC).
  • Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy an accredited program (for LMFT).

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing clients and/or families to assess the client's current diagnosis, coping strategies, cognitive strengths and deficits, situation strengths and weaknesses and mental status.
  • Developing and discussing proposed treatment plans with the client and detailing the recommendations and the reasoning for them.
  • Monitoring and documenting progress of clients and making service/treatment plan adjustments as necessary.
  • Ensuring established agency procedures are followed and that clinical standards that are set for treatment planning, the delivery of individual case management services, group and psycho-educational data, discharge planning and referral services are met.
  • Planning, implementing and/or coordinating all treatment services delivered to clients.
  • Collaboration and coordination with both internal and external resources are crucial to ensure successful client outcomes.
  • Conducts community planning, needs assessment and evaluation concerning societal conditions which impact on social functioning.
