About The Position

Provide security detail as outlined in the post orders and establish working relationships with customers, local law enforcement and fire departments. Security personnel will always perform job duties with a constant awareness of surroundings, making note of all activity that takes place in the assigned area. Security Officers must maintain a professional image and always demonstrate excellent customer service. The Licensed Security Officer assigned to the 3rd shift is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of property, tenants, employees, and visitors during overnight hours. This position requires vigilance, professionalism, and the ability to respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and safety concerns while working independently with minimal supervision.

  • Must possess a valid Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

  • Ability to work overnight/3rd shift hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Strong observation skills and the ability to remain alert for extended periods.
  • Ability to write clear, accurate, and detailed reports in English.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with the public.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to post orders and company policies.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening in accordance with Illinois law and company policy.
  • Employee must maintain an active Illinois PERC card at all times while employed.
  • Any required site ‑specific certifications or training must be completed within designated timeframes.

Responsibilities

  • Control of entrances and movement of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
  • Patrol of buildings and perimeters.
  • Escort of material and personnel.
  • Inspection of security and fire exposures.
  • Special assignments.
  • Be on time and report to post in full uniform.
  • Maintain professional image that includes greeting customers, visitors and employees in a polite and friendly manner.
  • Be proactive in knowing all revisions to post orders and general information distributed by the customer and AFS.
  • Patrol physical property or maintain fixed post position, being diligent to report any suspicious activity and investigate accidents and criminal acts.
  • Monitor cameras or equipment in a continuous fashion as outlined in the post orders.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all emergency policies, procedures and regulations to be able to respond to alarms, incidents and emergency situations.
  • Complete Daily Activity Reports, Log Book entries, Incident Reports and all relevant reports related to job assignment.
  • Make recommendations to management on better safety and loss prevention processes as identified during daily routine.
  • Have knowledge of any life safety systems, fire panels, CCTV system computer, and other such equipment to complete job assignments.
  • Ensure continuous and safe operation of all elevators and access doors.
  • Know authorized contractor personnel who are responsible for maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
  • Ensure training and compliance guidelines are met as outlined by AFS and other agencies regulating the customer / market.
  • Communicate on a daily basis with Security Supervisor any new Security Issues or changes that need to be considered or implemented.
  • Conduct regular foot and/or vehicle patrols of the property, interior and exterior, to deter theft, vandalism, trespassing, and other unlawful activity.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and access control equipment during overnight hours.
  • Control access to the property by verifying identification, issuing visitor credentials, and enforcing access policies.
  • Observe, report, and document suspicious activity, safety hazards, or policy violations in a clear and accurate manner.
  • Respond promptly to alarms, disturbances, medical emergencies, and other incidents, taking appropriate action consistent with company procedures.
  • Contact law enforcement, emergency medical services, or fire personnel when required and assist as needed.
  • Complete detailed written incident reports, shift logs, and activity reports before the end of each shift.
  • Enforce site ‑specific rules, regulations, and post orders in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Provide customer service assistance to employees, tenants, or authorized visitors when applicable.
  • Report maintenance, lighting, or safety issues observed during patrols to the appropriate department.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, alert posture, and situational awareness throughout the shift.
  • Participate in mandatory training, briefings, and licensing renewals as required.
