About The Position

The Retail Security Guard helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment for customers, employees, and vendors at Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The role requires attention to detail, professionalism, reliability, and a customer-first mindset. Duties may vary based on site needs. The guard patrols assigned areas or maintains a fixed post, monitors activity and security systems, manages access and traffic, responds to incidents, and completes required logs and reports. The role also includes following safety and emergency procedures, identifying property risks, supporting loss prevention, and assisting customers, employees, and visitors.

Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
Professional appearance and demeanor.
State Guard license required.
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Willingness to submit to a background and drug screen; employment offer is contingent on successful completion of a background investigation.
Minimum 3–6 months of prior experience in loss prevention, life safety, CCTV systems, or access computer systems.
Attentiveness and situational awareness.
Dependable and team-oriented.
Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong work ethic and sense of urgency.

Nice To Haves

Prior security or customer-facing experience.
Familiarity with CCTV, alarms, or access control systems.

Responsibilities

Patrol assigned areas or maintain a fixed post to monitor activity.
Control access points and manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Identify and report suspicious activity, incidents, and safety concerns.
Respond to alarms, emergencies, and on-site incidents.
Monitor CCTV cameras and security systems.
Complete daily activity logs, incident reports, and required documentation.
Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times.
Follow post orders, company policies, and safety procedures.
Maintain knowledge of emergency response protocols.
Inspect the property for safety risks, including fire hazards and equipment issues.
Support loss prevention and recommend safety improvements.
Greet and assist customers, employees, and visitors professionally; provide directions and support as needed.
Maintain a visible and approachable on-site presence.
Arrive on time in full uniform and remain engaged and proactive throughout the shift.
Follow safety, training, and compliance requirements.
