About The Position

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a Licensed Professional Geologist to support Pennsylvania's oil and gas regulatory program. This role involves applying advanced geological knowledge to protect natural resources and ensure safe subsurface operations, contributing to important decisions that guide policy, safety, and environmental protection. The position supports the Bureau of Oil and Gas Planning and Program Management by providing geological expertise for statewide regulatory and technical work, ensuring safe and effective oversight of subsurface activities and supporting policy development.

Requirements

• Possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
• Possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, interpret, and update geological policies, procedures, manuals, and technical standards.
• Assist with drafting rules, reviewing legislation, and coordinating regulatory updates with internal and external partners.
• Provide training on subsurface geological topics to staff and support updates to manuals and guidance documents.
• Assist with the development and evaluation of the Underground Injection Control program and related activities.
• Analyze reports, proposals, and subsurface data to ensure compliance with approved procedures.
• Respond to inquiries, support Right-to-Know requests, and represent the bureau at meetings and hearings.
