About The Position

This position is for the current 2026-2027 School Year. The Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) provides direct and indirect student services to reduce barriers to education, increase social/emotional growth, and provide links to needed services. The LPC will be part of a district cadre of mental health professionals receiving clinical training, supervision, and evaluation from the Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Department. The role involves collaborating with administration, staff, teachers, families, and the community to address the needs of identified students, analyzing policies and programs, and providing professional development and support services. The LPC works with students individually on personal problems, monitors student progress, supports interventions, and liaises with outside professionals. The position also involves supporting district goals, monitoring students in various educational environments, and being available to students and parents for guidance outside the instructional day. Continuous professional growth is expected through workshops and in-services, and participation in team and committee meetings is required. The role also includes performing management duties or other assigned tasks. The position operates at Tier I, II, and III levels of support, focusing on evidence-based programs, multi-tiered interventions, professional development, crisis intervention, direct services for families, and community resource coordination.

Requirements

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Therapist
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education certificate for School Counseling, PreK-12 or Social Worker.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • May be required to travel to perform work functions.
  • An understanding of the factors that impact student success.
  • A background in school counseling
  • Stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Lift on a regular basis 30-50 pounds
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing ability to monitor presence and activity of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required.
  • Applying reason to research and solving moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
  • Interpreting an assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Performing basic original research to assist with developing education/career action plans and instructional materials.
  • Maintaining and updating documentation.
  • Organizing and maintaining records, files and program information.

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, County and Municipal statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and Buckeye Union High School District (BUHSD) policies and procedures pertaining to social service delivery
  • Knowledge of systems such as Court, DES, DCS, Law Enforcement and other systems that affect families and youth served by BUHSD.
  • Knowledge of applicable BUHSD and departmental policies and procedures
  • Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Writing general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Principles and practices of program administration.
  • Basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
  • Best practices, trends and emerging technologies.
  • Principles and techniques of effective oral presentations.
  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
  • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide oral and written communication (translation in Spanish and English preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Collaborates with administration, staff, teachers, families, and community to address the needs of identified students.
  • Works with ESS Administration to analyze policies, programs, regulations, social-emotional, legal and ethical concerns in order to provide comprehensive professional development and support services.
  • Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustments.
  • Monitors student progress through high school and support targeted interventions with administrators, teachers, and parents.
  • Works with outside liaisons in support of students’ well-being (ex: Private Counselors).
  • Supports district, site, and department goals, projects, and initiatives.
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Is available to students and parents for guidance education-related purposes or activities outside the instructional day as assigned by the administration.
  • Attends site and district workshops, in-services, etc., to maintain proficient technical skills and continued professional growth.
  • Participates in assisting other colleagues.
  • Complies with all rules, regulations, and policies of the Governing Board that related to the duties as prescribed.
  • Typically works an additional 15 days (10 days prior and 5 days after) beyond the 9-month certified contract.
  • Agrees that during the period of the contract, s/he will perform management duties, or other duties as assigned by the administration or Governing Board.
  • Coordinates, develops and supervises evidence-based education and prevention programs including but not limited to bullying, substance abuse, violence/aggression, suicide/self-harm and social-emotional learning.
  • Implements and supports multi-tiered programs and practices, monitors progress and evaluates for service effectiveness.
  • Promotes a school climate and culture conducive to student learning.
  • Utilizes effective practices that provide for safe environments and supportive relationships.
  • Coordinates, develops and facilitates professional development for teachers, staff and administrators in the area of social/emotional learning, self-care and trauma sensitive schools.
  • Facilitates and actively participates in team, committee, staff meetings and school events.
  • Identifies and assesses for potential barriers to student academic success.
  • Offers consultation regarding special student populations - homelessness, students in poverty, refugees, victims of trauma etc.
  • Designs, facilitates and oversees direct services for children and families that include assessment, crisis intervention, individual and group support services, home visits, case management and advocacy.
  • Provides supplemental education of the school’s social-emotional learning program in the form of individual and group sessions to address skill deficits.
  • Provides crisis intervention support in the event of a family, school or community crisis or disaster.
  • Works with district homeless and foster care liaison to coordinate services such as transportation and free/reduced meals for youth experiencing homelessness and out-of-home placement.
  • Develops, coordinates and provides services for students, families and staff to meet basic needs.
  • Establishes and promotes a continuum of community resources, services and partnerships in order to support all members of the school community.
